For three years Airen went off the radar. A rather elusive one, she is...
Finally, I found her this morning, attending a service at First Unitarian on Fourth Street. This was a bit curious, as Airen had forgone church services in the past.
It seems she started going on the suggestion of an associate--the hope was for her to get involved socially, something that can often get awkward for someone like her. I hear this is her fourth time attending in the past month, so she's obviously found it rather enjoyable.
Today's service was a celebration of Beltane. I spotted Airen among a large group of people, holding a green ribbon, weaving her way around a tall maypole. It was quite an uplifting atmosphere.
I think I know why Airen chose this as her church home. Unitarian Universalists are an all-welcoming group. With her beliefs becoming more Gnostic, she has often felt like a misfit, and this is a place where doesn't need to worry about that. Also, she doesn't feel like she's being preached to; what she hears is more positive, more community-focused, and non-dogmatic.
I can really see Airen becoming an integral member of this congregation, and remaining here for years to come. I'm happy that she's found a place where her own spiritual path and convictions are embraced and accepted.
Airen: Missing Since 1982
The woman in the picture below is Airen. I have been on a spiritual search to find her for 33 years. I hear she has been spotted in many places, trying to find out what her life means. If you or someone you know has any wisdom or spiritual insight that may help me find Airen, please leave a comment or e-mail me at: missingsince82@gmail.com.

Update--6.25.2012
It's been nearly a year, but I've caught up again...
...And Airen's not looking so good. From what I've gathered, the past semester at U of L, along with the hostile political atmosphere--particularly the "War on Women"--have left Airen stressed out; as a result, she's started to put on a few pounds. Also, there was a death in her family recently, which has no doubt affected everyone, and has led Airen to start looking at life somewhat differently.
The good news: She passed all of her spring classes, and she's getting back on track with her body--sources tell me she's taking the walkpath and steps in to work, and she's trying to mind what she eats. She's had a recent windfall, which will be of great help to her as she finds a new home.
Where dating is concerned, it appears Airen's not looking. She acknowledges now that she's not ready for a relationship. I know of the bitterness she's held on to for years, and now it looks like she's trying to own up to it so she can do something about it. Until very recently she's been trying to hold it in for both her own sake and for the sake of others, but past situations involving two different men have reopened some old wounds, presenting a new opportunity to heal.
I applaud her for her willingness to take the necessary steps to change, however big or small, and will support her all the way.

Just thought I'd share this with everyone...
Eight years ago this morning, Airen saw what she felt was a sign from God. She then wrote about it in her journal.
On the morning of September 27, 2003, she had left work late. As she was walking from her bus stop, she noticed something about the clouds--they were shaped differently.
The clouds appeared to take the form of stacked Vs, and in the sky they looked like arrows, all pointing in one direction, one after the other.
Every year I think back to this event, and I know that wherever she is, Airen is thinking back to that day, too. Still neither one of us knows what it meant, or just what those clouds were pointing to. But I know Airen is looking forward to the day when she finally knows. And I hope to be standing with her on that day.

Update--7.6.2011
I've been off the trail for three months but now I've found it again. I think I may be closer than ever to finding Airen.
My search brought me to Amazon.com where, according to sources, Airen purchased a self-help book, called The Secret of the Shadow. She bought the book in May and has been using the exercises in the chapters.
I hear that she began searching for this book after reading an old copy of O Magazine, which someone had left in the laundry room of her building. There was an article about Debbie Ford, the book's author, in the January 2002 issue, where the book was mentioned. The book was released around that time.
As of right now, it appears Airen is in the process of writing her story and listening to the dialogue of her "Shadow Box."
The book is designed to help uncover one's hidden potential by helping that person to embrace herself, make peace with her past, and overcome her self-defeating thoughts.
I'm told that Airen has read the entire book, and through self-reflection, she is coming to understand herself in a new, refreshing way. She's always known she was a writer, for instance, but only recently, she's realized just how much writing has been a part of her overall nature, and it's given her a new perspective on her talent. Also, she has identified an underlying pattern in her unrequited love experiences, and is now confident that she can break this pattern and bring these experiences to an end. She has started to uncover the gifts within her flaws and is excited about bringing them out.
I'm happy to hear this, and I think that this is the beginning of an amazing transition. I'm so proud of her, and I hope to be right there with her when she finally unlocks that potential and steps out of her 25-year story. It will be awesome day.

Update--3.22.2011
I've been behind lately, but I've been trying! I'm hearing about Airen again. From what I hear, she had two teeth pulled on the 15th. But inside sources tell me that she still struggles with sinus problems--poor girl! I pray she gets better!
Also, I hear that there's been a slight shift in energy. I'm told that Airen is in the process of purging what has been a primary energy drainer for the past three years--a man she has known since attending class with him in 2008. Inside sources say that Airen still has feelings for him which may not totally dissipate, but she understands what must be done in order to remain spiritually strong, and she is willing to push those feelings aside. It saddens her, I imagine--she's always been a sensitive romantic--but I know she can do this, whatever it takes. I've always believed in her, and that hasn't changed. I just hope she can begin to believe in herself.
I think that right now, what Airen needs is for her friends and family to continue supporting her as she tries to move forward. She's dealt with her share of unrequited love in the past, and getting past it is not an overnight thing, especially for her. I'm sure it's frustrating, too, for someone her age to harbor such feelings time and again and get nothing in return. She'll need someone to talk to.

Update--3.1.2011
I have caught up with Airen again after several days. Sources tell me she has created her poetry blog and has shared it on Facebook. The blog has six poems, all published February 21.
Sources also tell me she recently purchased two books from Borders,* one of which she had been eyeing for a long time. The book in question is called The Soulmate Secret.
I have heard of this book before. It's all about finding your soulmate by manifesting them using the Law of Attraction...like the original Secret, but for lovers.
From what I know, Airen hasn't made it far past the first "feelingization"--with classes and an excruciating toothache, she hasn't had a chance!--but she's really into the book and hopes it can help her. I hear she's excited about making her first "treasure map."
I hope to keep everyone posted on this. It will be interesting to see what happens...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*The books were on sale. I hear Airen plans to buy many items from Borders before the Fourth Street location closes, and that she is very sad about the closure.

Update--2.15.2011
My sources have spotted Airen, at her building. She now has a new computer and can access the internet in the building's lobby.
Inside sources have informed me that she has begun writing poetry and hopes to publish it eventually if all works out for her. I know that for many years she has written poetry off and on, but until recently she has struggled with the craft due to lack of confidence in her writing and stagnating creativity. I was pleased with the news that she has given it another try.
So far I hear that Airen has written two rough poems, one of which is not yet finished, and she plans to share these through her emotiblog, along with any others in the future should she find herself inspired again.
I'm told she is taking an English class which centers specifially around poetry. So far her class has only studied two poets, but learning about the style and unique voice of each poet has helped to understand how she could improve her own poetry, using imagery, metaphor, and emotion.
From what I've gathered, I know that one of these poems is about a sensitive news story from 2009 (perhaps this is the unfinished work?), and Airen is somewhat reluctant to blog it, but still wants to share what she's made, even if only for constructive feedback. She has resolved this year to hold nothing back...and that certainly includes her writing.*
I truly am happy that Airen has decided to once again diversify her writing talents. I will be praying for her to be a success, and I ask that you all do the same.
*I had neglected to mention that as of her birthday, Airen has successfully produced a list of resolutions, some of which have been carried over from last year; I hope to hear details on this list very soon.
